BOSTON, Mass. – A goal by senior Jacob Dukeshire (Nashua, N.H.) just over halfway through the first half gave the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team (2-8-1) a tie against the visiting UMass Dartmouth Corsairs (0-8-2) on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Corsairs wasted little time getting on the board as a pass across the box from senior Joey Paiva (Dartmouth, Mass.) landed on the foot of sophomore Nick Mahjoory (Somerset, Mass.), who had nothing but net to score and put UMass Dartmouth ahead 1-0 at the 6:04 mark.
  • Shortly after a corner kick for the Leopards, freshman Adam Robertson (Lake Oswego, Oregon) sent a long pass to the top corner of the box, where a shot by Dukeshire was taken on goal and past sophomore Cole Travers (Somerset, Mass.), tying the contest at one apiece at the 26:28 mark.
  • A series of corner kicks and shots for the Corsairs to start the second half proved to be unsuccessful, with sophomore Giovanni Ruggieri (Canton, Mass.) making a save at the 55:57 mark.
  • A corner kick for the Black & Gold at the 68:00 mark nearly proved to be the difference-maker as senior Luke Williams (Guilford, Vt.) had a header that skimmed the crossbar.
  • The contest ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw, with Ruggieri making three saves. Travers made two stops for the Corsairs.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Entering tonight, the last five matchups between the two teams have been decided by one goal, with three of the five going an extra frame.
