BOSTON, Mass. – Two first-half goals by Vinny Dentrone in his collegiate debut proved to be the difference for the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team (1-0) as the Leopards downed the visiting Colby-Sawyer Chargers (0-1) by a 4-1 score in season-opening play Friday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After the Chargers were awarded two corner kicks around the eight minute mark, the visitors got on the board on a quick rush downfield, with Kaden Lewis' shot off a pass from Judson DiMaria finding twine at the 16:23 mark.
- After grabbing a corner kick at the 21:32 mark, Alex Burnham's kick off the fringe found the head of Vinny Dentrone, who plucked the ball into the net for the tying tally at the 21:38 mark.
- The Black & Gold earned two more corner kicks, and gained most possession of play, leading to a tic-tac-toe play between Dentrone, Michael Liquori, and Zachary Redondo. Dentrone's shot beat Chargers' goalkeeper Yener Bartolon, giving Wentworth a 2-1 edge at the 32:51 mark.
- Wentworth padded their lead at the 61:44 mark of the second half as Christopher Jimenez's shot resulted in the senior's first goal of 2024. Angel Rojas stretched the Leopards' lead to 4-1 with 37 seconds to go, marking his first collegiate goal.
- Bartolon made six saves for the Chargers in the setback while Noah Lawless made three in the Black & Gold's win.

- Winners of four of the last five matchups, Wentworth leads the all-time series, 11-9-2.
