WORCESTER, Mass. – Ben Siegel scored a pair of goals and Diego Marin made eight saves as the Clark University men's soccer team (0-1-1) defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology (1-2-0), 3-0, in non-conference action Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Clark wasted little time creating a scoring opportunity as the Cougars' first shot attempt was blocked and led to a corner kick. Evan Thompson took the kick where he sent a ball to Henry Kuerbis. Kuerbis fed Ben Siegel, who found the back of the net just 66 seconds into the contest.
- The Cougars continued to mount pressure on Wentworth, putting four shots on net in a span of 12 and a half minutes with Noah Lawless coming up with four saves. Wentworth had a chance in the 22nd minute off a corner kick, with a pair of shot attempts. The first was blocked before a header from Zachary Redondo sent a header high.
- Wentworth put its first shot on net in the 30th minute with Christopher Jimenez's bid saved by Marin. The Leopards had three shot attempts over the next three and a half minutes, however, one was blocked and the other two went wide.
- Clark took a 2-0 lead at the 50:05 mark as Siegel netted his second goal, off a feed from Gediwon Williams. Siegel nearly made it 3-0 in the 60th minute when a header off a corner kick hit the crossbar.
- The Black & Gold mounted pressure, in hopes of getting on the scoreboard. Wentworth had a pair of shots on net saves within a 53-second span in the 62nd and 63rd minutes and put two more shots on net that were saved by Marin.
- Clark iced the game with a goal by Lucas Saia with 3:13 left.
- Wentworth had a 22-18 shot advantage, which included an 11-6 advantage in the second half. Lawless made six saves for the Leopatrds.
