September 10, 2024
BOSTON, Mass. – An early, second-half goal by Emerson College's Theodore Bushara evened the score at 1-all as the Lions (1-2-1) and Wentworth Institute of Technology (1-2-2) played to a crosstown draw Tuesday night on Sweeney Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Play was centered around the middle of the field for the opening part of the game until Wentworth scored on the first shot attempt of the contest. Luis Valiente sent a pass along the right side to Adam Robertson, who put a shot inside the left post seven minutes in.
- Emerson peppered Leopard keeper Mason Brooks with six straight shots; five of which he saved and the sixth rattled the crossbar, keeping the hosts ahead by a goal. The Black & Gold countered with a pair of shots on net by Vinny Dentrone, however, both were saved by Wylie Jelinek.
- Dentrone had a bid in the 35th minute that was stopped by Jelinek, keeping Wentworth ahead, 1-0. The Lions countered with four corner kicks late in the half, one of which led to a shot attempt that Brooks saved.
- Bushara's goal, coming at the 48:19 mark, came off a feed from the right side across the box from Thomas Pelino. Bushara beat Brooks with a shot inside the left post.
- Dentrone nearly put Wentworth ahead in the 58th minute when he went in alone, however, Jelinek made a stop right on the doorstep.
- Brooks came up with three saves late in the contest, including one in the 87th minute. In his collegiate debut he made 10 saves, seven of which came in the first half. Jelinek had five saves for Emerson. The Lions had a 24-9 shot advantage and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
