BOSTON, Mass. – Two second-half tallies lifted the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer (4-3-2, 1-0 CNE) to a 2-0 blanking of conference-foe Curry (5-4-0, 0-1 CNE) in both team's respective conference openers Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth applied offense early, nicking two shots on goal in less than two minutes time just over ten minutes into the contest. Both were saved by Colonels' goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham, including a try by Christopher Jimenez try at the 17:06 mark.
- Curry responded later on, earning two corner kicks by the 26:58 mark. Three shots by the Colonels were all turned away by Adrian Sanchez, keeping the contest scoreless heading into the break.
- The Leopards broke the scoreless knot early in the second half as a free kick by Alex Burnham found the head of Zachary Redondo in the box, who beat Cunnigham to lift the Black & Gold to a 1-0 lead at the 49:02 mark.
- Wentworth doubled their lead by the 72:08 mark as an outlet pass by Dylan Michaud found Carlos Jimenez, who tucked the ball into the left corner of the net for his first collegiate goal.
- Sanchez made three saves in his third-straight shutout bid while the Black & Gold owned advantages in shots (16-7) and corner kicks (5-2).
SERIES NOTES:
- Wentworth owns the all-time series, 24-11-2.
