Western New England Fends Off Men's Soccer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team (6-6-2, 2-2 CNE) couldn't fully come back from a 2-0 hole early in the second half of play, falling to conference-foe Western New England (6-6-3, 2-1-1 CNE) by a 2-1 edge Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Golden Bears pushed for offense early, holding an early shot advantage just before a cross pass by WNE ricochetted off of a Leopard and found the back of the goal, giving the hosts a 1-0 edge by the 21:32 mark. The Golden Bears finished the first half with a 10-2 shot advantage of the Black & Gold.
• WNE doubled their lead by the 54:19 mark as a shot by Roger Leland beat Noah Lawless up high, giving the Golden Bears a 2-0 advantage.
• Wentworth cut the deficit to just one just over four minutes later as a high shot by Vinny Dentrone, who received a stretch pass from Adamo Tsakiris, potted a tally at the 60:21 mark to bring the score to 2-1.
• Dentrone and Zachary Redondo nicked shots towards goal in the later going in an attempt to knot the score, but both proved to be unsuccessful. Despite the setback, Lawless turned aside six shots. WNE owned advantages in total shots (23-7, 7-3 on goal) and corner kicks (6-1).
