WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Two goals by Austin Murawski helped the Hartford Hawks men's soccer team scoot past the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 4-2 score in conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 10-3-2 and 4-3-1 in conference play while the Leopards fall to 6-10-2 (2-6-0 CNE).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks got on the board just 1:40 into the afternoon as a turnover found the foot of Devon Jessop, who slid a pass across the box to Nicholas Castrovinci with Castrovinci's ensuing shot finding twine, putting Hartford ahead 1-0.
- At the 5:05 mark, the hosts doubled their lead as a penalty kick by Murawski also found the back of the net, marking a 2-0 score. Wentworth upped the pressure, nicking four shots by the end of the 25th minute with all four proving to be unsuccessful.
- Wentworth cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 49:50 mark as a penalty kick by Alex Burnham found a gap in the left side of the goal. However, the Hawks answered with a goal of their own just 1:03 later as Murawski headed in the rock off of a ricochet from a shot that initially hit the crossbar.
- The Hawks padded their lead to 4-1 at the 67:21 mark on a high shot by Kellijah Morgan that landed just under the uprights. The Leopards cut the deficit to 4-2 as Kingston McGee streaked down the side of the box and had a shot placed into the back of the net in the 89th minute off of a give-and-go with Elan Mendivil.
- Despite the loss, the Black & Gold owned the advantage in shots (12-10) but were narrowly outmatched in corner kicks (3-2).
