Men's Soccer Concludes 2024 Campaign
Leopards fall to Suffolk, 3-0, and finish the season with twice as many wins as the previous season
BOSTON, Mass. – Three different student-athletes tallied goals and Nathan Harlow made six saves as the Suffolk University men's soccer team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-0, in Conference of New England action Tuesday afternoon.
With the win the Rams improve to 9-6-4 overall and 6-1-2 in CNE play and will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Leopards end their season with a 6-11-2 (2-7-0) record, doubling their win output from the 2023 campaign.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth had the early advantage, with a pair of shots by Christopher Jimenez and Younes Henniche. However, Harlow came up with a pair of saves to keep the Leopards off the board.
- In the 16th minute, Suffolk had its first scoring chance when a header off a corner kick went wide of the mark. However, less than two minutes later, Lee Ford served a corner towards the box where Deigo Pierantozzi got a head on the ball and beat Noah Lawless at 17:51.
- At 28:57 mark, the Rams went ahead 2-0 as Damon Smargon corralled the ball off a turnover and tucked a shot in the upper left corner.
- Wentworth had a chance in the 40th minute when Carlos Jimenez took a shot that Harlow made a save on.
- After Lawless made a save in the 50th minute of action, Suffolk increased its lead to 3-0 four and a half minutes later as Pierantozzi sent a ball into the box. Luke Blawn head it across the goal mouth where Miguel Varela put a low header inside the left post.
- Parker Cheyne, Jake Silva, and Sammy Hadouche each had shots on net for the Black & Gold late in the second half but Harlow made saves on all of them to preserve the shutout.
- Lawless made three saves for Wentworth in 69:24. Adrian Sanchez made a pair of saves over the final 20:36. Suffolk had a 20-15 shot advantage a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today marked the 16th all-time meeting between the two teams with he series knotted at 7-7-2.
