NORTH READING, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team kicked off the 2024-2025 season with a pair of matches on Sunday afternoon. The Leopards were defeated by Colby-Sawyer, 7-0, and Emerson, 5-2.
COLBY-SAWYER 7, WENTWORTH 0
- Colby-Sawyer took two of the first three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead after the doubles flights. At No. 2, Manas Arya and Eric Doraci were close to picking up a win, falling, 6-4.
The Chargers won at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 singles to take the four points needed to win the match under new scoring rules for this season. - At. No. 4, Niko Rosich fell in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 0-1 (6-10)), while, at No. 6, James Weete also went to three sets, falling, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 0-1 (6-10).
EMERSON 5, WENTWORTH 2
- After dropping a 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles, Arya and Weete teamed up at No. 3 to even the doubles portion at 1-all, setting the stage for the winner of No. 2 to give their team a 1-0 lead. Rosich and Pranav Marwaha batted but ultimately came up short, 4-6, which gave Emerson a 1-0 lead.
- Rosich evened the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 before the Lions won at No. 6, No. 2, and No. 1, to clinch the match and added a win at No. 5.
- Arya picked up a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 3 to account for the Black & Gold's second point of the match.
