McSolla Finishes Eighth, Earns All-America Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – In its inaugural varsity season the Wentworth Institute of Technology indoor track team has produced an All-American. Junior Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.) earned this prestigious honor by finishing eighth in the mile at the 207 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships today at North Central College.

McSolla, who qualified for today's final with a time of 4:13.27, shaved just over three seconds off that time to finish eighth with a time of 4:10.20. With the top eight finishers earning All-America honors, McSolla became Wentworth's fifth Al-American in school history by the narrowest of margins – just one one-hundredth of a second. His time today was his second-fastest of the season and was 4.57 seconds behind the national champion.

With his eighth-place finish, he gained one point for the Leopards in the team standings. The University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse and host North Central tied for first with 34.0 team points.

"I am extremely proud of the accomplishments this team has had in the first year of our program," said head coach Dan Roark. "For Dan to make it to this stage and succeed being an All-American is attributed to the hard work and dedication of the whole team. Dan raced gritty this weekend and I am so proud he gets to come home with some hardware and title of All-American. He really wore the Wentworth uniform with pride this weekend and was able to make a splash on the national stage."
