Rochester Bound! Pierce Qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – The outstanding senior campaign for Wentworth Institute of Technology track & field student-athlete Jared Pierce (Biddeford, Maine) will continue as the senior has been selected to compete at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held on May 25-27, in Rochester, N.Y., on the campus of St. John Fisher College.

Pierce, the first student-athlete from the outdoor track & field team to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the program's three seasons of existence, is no stranger to national competition, having been selected and earning All-American status with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships back in March. His senior campaign saw him earn Commonwealth Coast Conference Field Athlete of the Year as he earned first team all-conference honors in both the shot put and the discus and second place in the hammer throw. This marked the second straight season he was an All-CCC performer, having earned first team in the discus, second team in the shot put, and third team in the hammer throw as a junior.

He holds program records in the shot put (16.75M), discus (48.35M), and hammer throw (45.44M), having broken his own shot put record last weekend at the NEICAAA Championships for a fourth-place finish and breaking his own discus record (48.35M) at the MIT Final Qualifying Meet on May 18.

Pierce, who finished ninth on the NCAA Division III qualifying list in the shot put, will compete on Friday, May 26, at 1:00 p.m.
