Men's Indoor Track & Field Takes Second at Yankee Small College Invitational
Leopards post a strong performance on the strength of four first-place finishes
NORTHHAMPTON, Mass. – On the strength of four first-place finishes, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's indoor track & field team placed second at the Yankee Small College Invitational.
The Leopards picked up 112 points, which was second only to Fitchburg State's 135.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth picked up three points in the 60M, with Gabriel Silva picking up two points after a fifth-place finish (7.36) and Will Stewart placing sixth (7.47). Silva also picked up a point in the 200M, finishing sixth with a time of 23.82.
- Matt Murphy finished sixth in the 400M (56.01) to add a point to the Leopards' total, while Adi Aditya was second (eight points) in the 600M, finishing with a time of 1:30.26.
- Joey Cotta picked up a first-place (10 points) finish in the mile with a time of 4:40.41. Dylan Brilliant was right behind him to finish second (eight points) with a time of 4:55.08. Sean Guiliano earned two points for the Black & Gold after finishing fifth (5:24.23). Nathan Bergquist-Guimond had a second-place finish in the 3000M, crossing the line in a time of 9:49.02.
- The 60M hurdles saw Wentworth earn 10 points, with eight of those coming from Oliver Bishop, who was second (8.86). Owen Moriarty finished fifth (two points), with a time of 9.30. The 4X400M relay team of Brilliant, Cotta, Giuliano, and Robbie McCue was third (six points; 4:02.07).
- Dominic Simpri won the high jump, earning 10 points after clearing a height of 1.85M. Nate Muller won the pole vault for the second consecutive week, clearing 4.45M, which gave the Leopards 10 more points. Also in the pole vault, Moriarty was third (six points), with a top vault of 4.15M.
- Bishop added four points to his team's score when he placed fourth in the long jump (6.25).
- For the second time this season, Fabrice Fouron won the triple jump (10 points) as he had a top jump of 13.96M.
- In the shot put, Julian Sacca placed second (eight points) with a best throw of 14.01M, while Joe Packowski was third (six points; 13.91M). Sacca also claimed a point in the weight throw with a best throw of 12.31M.
ADDITIONALLY:
Three student-athletes competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University on Saturday, competing against some of the nation's best. In the 1000M, Mark Murphy placed 41st (2:36.47). In the mile, Ryan Ballard was 177th (4:23.35) and Ezra Blasko was 195th (4:25.68).
