Leopards Win Second Straight With 3-0 Win Over Lesley

Leopards Win Second Straight With 3-0 Win Over Lesley

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) had four kills, three aces, three blocks, three digs, and six assists to help pace the Wentworth men's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Lesley in an NECVA New England match played at Tansey Gymnasium.

The host Leopards, who won their second straight match, jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first game before the Lynx got as close as 5-3.  Wentworth went on a 6-0 run to open the lead to 11-3, but Lesley would eventually trim the lead to 13-11 by scoring eight of the next 10 points.  That would be as close as the visitors would get, as the Leopards outscored Lesley by a 12-4 margin and claimed the first game, 25-15.

Three early ties in the second game had the score knotted at 3-all before Wentworth scored nine of the next 10 points to go out in front, 12-4.  The Leopards took their largest lead, 21-11, before the Lynx came within six at 24-18. However, a Lesley attack error ended the comeback and gave Wentworth a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 win.

Lesley scored the first two points of the third game and eventually held a 9-5 lead before the Leopards went on a 9-2 run to take a 14-12 lead.  The Lynx pulled the match within two points on two separate occasions, but Wentworth would complete the sweep with a 25-19 win.

Freshman Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.) had eight kills, while senior Lowell Jesmer (Rochester, N.Y.) had eight kills and three blocks to help pace the offense.  Senior Marc Larue (Lincoln, R.I.) had 11 digs, with sophomore Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) adding 27 assists in the win.

Lesley was paced by senior Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, Calif.), who had five kills, while classmate Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn.) and freshman William Lau (Charlestown, Mass.) had three kills apiece, with Lau adding 14 digs.  Senior Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) had 10 digs and a pair of aces.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday.  Wentworth (3-4, 2-2) hosts Johnson & Wales and CCNY in a tri-match, while Lesley (0-5, 0-4) is at Southern Vermont.
