Wentworth Runs Win Streak to Six Matches

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Wentworth men's volleyball team made quick work of City Tech and York as the Leopards defeated both by 3-0 scores to improve to 17-6 heading into a stretch where the Leopards are idle for 18 days.

Against City Tech Wentworth took the opening game by a 25-15 score and would use 25-17 and 25-18 scores to complete the sweep.  Senior Derek Portugal (Barrington, R.I.), freshman Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.), and senior Dan Mulvey (Halifax, Mass.) had 10, seven, and six kills, respectively.  Senior Lowell Jesmer (Rochester, N.Y.) had five kills and four blocks, while sophomore Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) had 28 assists and six digs.  Freshman Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) rounded out the offensive leaders with five kills and three aces.

The Leopards ran their win streak to six matches with a sweep of the Cardinals.  Wentworth hit .455 in the opening game, en route to a 25-11 win and increased the lead to 2-0 with a 25-16 win in the second game.  The Leopards, who have now won 18 straight games, finished the hosts off after hitting .500 (14 kills on 26 swings) with a 25-15 win.  Burdett and Portugal had nine and eight kills, respectively, while Jesmer had five aces in the match.  Portugal also added seven digs and Moriarty had 26 assists.
