Wentworth Falls in ECAC Tournament

BEVERLY, Mass. – Playing in its first-ever ECAC Men's Volleyball Tournament match, the fourth-seeded Leopards played three tight games against top-seeded Endicott, but saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss in the semifinal round.

The Gulls, who would lose to Newbury in the championship match, hit .308 in the opening game and took a 25-23 win and a 1-0 lead.  Despite hitting .343 in the second game, the Leopards were defeated by the hosts by an identical score of 25-23.  Endicott saved its best hitting game for the third game as the Gulls hits .423, making just two errors on 26 swings and closed out the match with a 25-20 win.

Freshman Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.) closed out his impressive rookie campaign with a 15-kill performance, while senior Lowell Jesmer (Rochester, N.Y.) ended his stellar career with a nine-kill, three-block performance.  Senor Derek Portugal (Barrington, R.I.) and freshman Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) each had eight kills and added three and two blocks, respectively.  Senior Marc Larue (Lincoln, R.I.) had 11 digs to go along with 34 assists from sophomore Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.).

Wentworth ends its finest season in program history with a 20-11 record.
