BOSTON, Mass. – After two seasons and program-record 36 wins, Wentworth Institute of Technology Head Men's Volleyball Coach Rob Mullowney has resigned as the Leopards' head coach.  Director of Athletics Lee Conrad accepted his resignation.  Mullowney, who had also been the head women's volleyball coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy for four seasons, is stepping down to become the head women's volleyball coach at Roger Williams University.

"I will miss coaching at Wentworth because the team is a great group of young men who truly love the sport of volleyball," said Mullowney.  "Their success during the last two seasons was a direct result from their hard work and dedication toward making each other better."

Mullowney arrived at Wentworth in the summer of 2009 and inherited a program that had won a total of 19 matches from 2006-2009.  In his inaugural season with the Black & Gold he posted a 16-10 record, including a stretch of nine wins in 11 matches late in the season to secure Wentworth's first .500 or better season since 2001.

The 2011 edition of the Leopards began the season with a 1-3 record, with two of the three losses coming to nationally ranked teams.  However, Wentworth went 16-2 in its next 18 matches – including a pair of six-match win streaks – to post its second-highest win total in program history and when the Leopards defeated Mount Ida, 3-0, on March 23 it gave the Black & gold 20 wins on the season, eclipsing the program mark for single-season wins (19), set during the 2000 campaign.  Wentworth, which set four statistical records this past season, finished the season with a 20-11 record and earned the program's first-ever ECAC Tournament berth.

Mullowney was a 2011 recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches' Association's "Thirty Under 30" award, honoring up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport of volleyball.

"Returning a solid core of talented student-athletes and with the addition of a large incoming class, I am confident that the Wentworth men's volleyball team will continue to be successful," added Mullowney.  "I wish the program much success in future years."

"I would like to thank Rob for the tremendous job he has done over the past two years with our men's volleyball program," said Conrad.  "He will be missed and we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor."

A search for Mullowney's replacement will commence immediately.
