Evin Giglio Named Head Men's Volleyball Coach

BOSTON, Mass. – Director of Athletics Lee Conrad today announced the hiring of Evin Giglio as the new Head Men's Volleyball Coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology, effective immediately. Giglio replaces Rob Mullowney, who stepped down after two seasons to become the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Roger Williams University.

"Evin's experience, leadership skills, and enthusiasm are a perfect fit for our program," said Conrad. "I am looking forward to him continuing our recent success, especially as we enter our first season in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference."

Most recently Giglio served as an Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach at Austin Peay University during the 2010 season where he primarily worked with the middle blockers as well as assisting with practice planning, player evaluation, scouting reports, film breakdown, team travel, and gameday operations. The Governors enjoyed their best record in 18 seasons, going 25-7 (14-4 Ohio Valley Conference) won their first OVC Championship since 1991 and earned the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. One of his middle blockers, Jessica Mollman, was named all-conference, while a second, Taylor Skinner, set career highs for kills, hitting percentage, and blocks.

Giglio was involved with the men's volleyball program at Springfield College for two seasons. As a junior, he appeared in seven matches and helped the Pride to a 14-10 record and a berth in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association – a Division I men's volleyball conference – Quarterfinals. A year later he was a student assistant for the Pride, helping them to a 20-11 record and the sixth Molten Division III Men's Volleyball National Championship in program history. He graduated from Springfield in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in communication/sports journalism.

Prior to arriving at Springfield, Giglio played two seasons for Moorpark (Calif.) College where he was a starting middle blocker and served as a team captain. He recorded 12 blocks in a match, which still stands as a program record. In addition to playing for the Raiders, he was also a student assistant for the women's team. He earned an Associate's degree from Moorpark in 2008.

Giglio has worked camps at Springfield, Moorpark, and Austin Peay and was also involved with the Conejo Crush Volleyball Club as an assistant coach with the 14-year old age group and a co-head coach with the 15-year old age group.

"I'd like to thank Lee Conrad for giving me the opportunity to coach at Wentworth," said Giglio. "I am extremely excited for the upcoming season. I know the team was competitive last season and I hope to continue to build upon what is already a solid group of student-athletes. I look forward to working with a highly touted group of young individuals."

The Leopards finished the 2011 campaign with a 20-11 record, which established a new program record for wins in a season and also earned their first-ever ECAC Tournament berth in the sport of men's volleyball. After 14 seasons of competing in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association's New England division, Wentworth joined the GNAC as an associate member and opens the 2012 season on Jan. 24 against MIT.
