Men's Volleyball Notches First Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.) hit .500, including 12 kills, to go along with seven digs and three aces as the Wentworth men's volleyball team evened its record at 1-1 on the young season with a 3-0 win over Lesley. The win was the first collegiate coaching win for Leopard first-year mentor Evin Giglio.

The Black & gold played took a 25-10 win in the opening games, thanks in part to not committing any attack errors and hitting .455. Burdett had four kills in the opening frame, while sophomore Brian Mann (East Freetown, Mass.) had three kills on four swings.

Lesley seized early momentum in the second game, taking three early leads. However, the Leopards used 13 kills and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-12 win. Mann had three kills on three swings during the game, while freshman Rami Akouri (Fall River, Mass.) had four kills.

Wentworth closed out the match with a 25-11 in the third game as Burdett recorded six kills and classmate Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) added three. The Leopards, who hit .371 for the game, hit .450 in the third game.

Buonincontra, Mann, and Akouri each recorded six kills on the night, while combining to make just four attack errors on 38 swings. Buonincontra also had five digs and a pair of blocks. Freshman Israel Shaw (New Ipswich, N.H.) had three kills, three blocks, and five aces, while junior Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) chipped in with 25 assists, three aces, and six digs.

For the Lynx, senior Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, Calif.) had seven kills, while sophomore Max Hoevenaar (Orlando, Fla.) had five kills and eight digs.

Wentworth travels to New York City of Saturday for matches against CCNY and Lehman, while Lesley (0-1) is at Johnson & Wales on Tuesday.
