Men's Volleyball Sweeps Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Brian Mann (East Freetown, Mass.) recorded eight kills on 13 swings to go along with three blocks, while classmate Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.) had eight kills and 10 digs as the Wentworth men's volleyball team evened its Great Northeast Athletic Conference record at 2-2 with a 3-0 win at Mount Ida in the second meeting between the two schools in less than a week.

The opening game went back and forth with multiple lead changes before the Leopards took a 29-27 win. Mann had four kills in the opener while junior Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Burdett each added three kills. Burdett also had five digs in the win.

Wentworth took a 2-0 with a 25-10 win the second game, thanks in part to committing just one attack error in 20 total attempts. Burdett and freshman Rami Akouri (Fall River, Mass.) and Burdett each recorded a pair of kills in the win and also had four and two digs, respectively.

The Leopards closed out the match with a 25-14 win in the third game and Mann and Burdett each had three kills.

Akouri added five kills in the victory while Moriarty had four kills and 20 assists. Sophomore Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) had three aces and four digs and freshman Drew Estes (Trophy Club, Texas) had eight digs to help the winning cause.

With the win the Leopards improve to 6-4 overall and are idle until February 22 when they continue GNAC play at Lasell.
