Men Volleyball Beats Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Dan Burdett (Needham, Mass.) recorded a match-high 18 kills to help the Wentworth men's volleyball team win its second straight match with a 3-1 win at Lasell in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

The first game featured seven ties and four lead changes before the Leopards prevailed by a 26-24 margin. Burdett had five kills in the game, while sophomore Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) and freshman Rami Akouri (Fall River, Mass.) recorded three digs to help the Black & Gold.

Wentworth extended its lead to 2-0 with a 25-16 win in the second game, aided by a team attack percentage of .321. Burdett had five kills, Akouri had four kills and two aces, and freshman Drew Estes (Trophy Club, Texas) had five digs. The Leopards held the Lasers to a negative attack percentage (-.077) in the win.

Lasell battled back to cut the lead to 2-1 with a 25-23 win in the third game, a game that featured five ties and a pair of lead changes. Estes had five digs, while Burdett had four kills and junior Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) had four kills and four digs.

The Leopards closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth game. As a team Wentworth hit a match-high .474 with Burdett and Moriarty recording three kills apiece. Moriarty also had three blocks.

In addition to his 18 kills, Burdett had two aces and six digs. Akouri had and two aces, while sophomore Brian Mann (East Freetown, Mass.) had eight kills. Moriarty finished with seven kills, an attack percentage of .636, 35 assists, and five blocks. Buonincontra added seven kills and nine digs, while Estes had a match-high 13 digs.

Wentworth improves to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in GNAC play, while Lasell drops to 2-4 (0-3). The Leopards head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday for a tri-match against CCNY and host Vassar.
