Men's Volleyball Notches Second Straight Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.) and freshman Nate Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) recorded 15 and 11 kills, respectively, as the Wentworth men's volleyball team upped its record to 10-5 with a 3-1 win over Emerson in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.

The Lions held the Leopards to a negative hitting percentage (-.129) in the opening game, a game that featured four ties and four lead changes and would see the hosts hit .250 in a 25-18 win. Burdett and Perry combined for four of the Leopards' six kills in the game.

Wentworth battled through an early deficit in the second game and would break a 10-all tie with a 7-2 run and eventually even the match with a 25-17 triumph. The Leopards held the Lions to an attack percentage nearly 200 points power than the first game, while hitting .179. Burdett had four kills and five digs in the game, while sophomore Brian Mann (East Freetown, Mass.) had a pair of blocks. Sophomore Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) and freshman Israel Shaw (New Ipswich, N.H.) each recorded three digs.

Burdett (five kills), Buonincontra (three kills, two digs), and Perry (three kills) helped give the Leopards a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 win in the third frame, a game that was controlled by the Black & Gold from start to finish. The Leopards held the Lions to a -.048 attack percentage in the game after racing out to a 4-0 lead.

The fourth game saw Wentworth hit .345 as a team, en route to a 25-18 win. Perry (five kills) and Burdett (four kills) led the way offensively, while freshman Rami Akouri (Fall River, Mass.) had three solo blocks.

Burdett, who recorded 10 or more kills for the 13th time in 15 matches, also had eight digs on the night. Buonincontra added seven kills and eight digs for the match while Mann added five kills and three blocks. Junior Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) had 33 assists, eight digs, and a pair of aces. Freshman Drew Estes (Trophy Club, Texas) had a match-high 11 digs. As a team The Leopards collected 10 aces and 11 blocks.
