Burdett, Moriarty Earn GNAC Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – Two members of the Wentworth men's volleyball team have been honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference for their play throughout the 2012 season. Sophomore outside hitter Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.) was named Second Team All-GNAC while junior setter Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) was named to the GNAC Sportsmanship Team.

Burdett, one of the team's captains, played in 105 of a possible 105 games over 31 matches and led the team with 358 kills (3.41 per game) to go along with an attack percentage of .251, 29 service aces, 203 digs, and 20 blocks. He recorded five double-doubles, including in matches where he posted career highs in kills (26 vs Emerson on March 29) and digs (16 vs Johnson & Wales on March 20) and recorded 10 or more kills in 21 matches this season. In the latest NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Statistics, he was 16th in the country with 3.41 kills per game.

Over his two seasons in a Wentworth uniform Burdett has played in a 60 of a possible 60 matches and 208 of a possible 212 games and has 677 kills, 53 service aces, 362 digs, and an attack percentage of .243. He presently ranks second in kills per game (3.25), fourth in attack attempts (1,570), fifth in attack percentage, sixth in kills, and ninth in digs.

Moriarty, also a captain, played in 24 of the team's 29 matches before an injury sidelined him for the final five matches of the season. In 83 games he recorded 649 assists, 54 kills, 21 service aces, 151 digs, and 30 blocks and had season highs of 41 assists and 14 digs in a 3-2 win over Albertus Magnus. That double-double was one of four for Moriarty this season and he is presently 29th in the country (Division III) with 7.82 assists per game.

A three-year standout at setter Moriarty had played in 81 matches (275 games) and is the program's all-time leader in assists with 2,516 (9.15 per game). He has also recorded 160 kills, an attack percentage of .272, 82 service aces, 467 digs, and 90 total blocks. He ranks third in program history in digs and seventh in service aces.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Evin Giglio the Leopards finished 13-16 overall and 7-7 in GNAC play, which was good for fourth place. Of the Leopards' 16 losses, nine came to opponents who were ranked in the AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball Poll at the time of the match.
