Men's Volleyball Takes Second at Wildcat Invitational

MARCY, N.Y. – After splitting a pair of matches on the second day of the Wildcat Invitational, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team finished with a 3-1 record and took home second place. The Leopards fell to ninth-ranked Nazareth, 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16), before wrapping up tournament play with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-21) win over Vassar.

Nazareth hit .548 as a team in completing the sweep as the Golden Flyers made just nine errors on 73 swings, including only five over the last two sets as Nazareth hit .627 over the last two frames. Both teams would hit well in the first set as the Leopards hit .429 and Nazareth .364 with the Golden Flyers prevailing, 25-23.

Sophomore Jake Reed (Arvada, Colo.) paced the Black & Gold with 10 kills and a .389 attack percentage. Freshman Sean Mullen (Longwood, Fla.) had eight kills, sophomore Alex Potts (Niverville, N.Y.) had five kills and a pair of blocks, and sophomore Collin Ritter (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had 21 assists.

Hitting .411 as a team, the Leopards earned their fourth straight set win of the season with a sweep of the Brewers. After hitting .375 in the opening set, Wentworth made just in error on 20 swings and hit .600 in the second set, a set where the Leopards forced Vassar to have an attack percentage of .000.

Mullen led the Leopards with 10 kills, hit .421, and added a pair of blocks in the win. Potts and Reed had seven kills each with Potts not making an error on his 10 swings for a .700 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks. Freshman Jon Roat (Macedon, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills and three blocks, and senior Sean Donahue (Lincoln, R.I.) had four kills, hit .667, and recorded four blocks. Ritter had 30 assists and sophomore Mike Rogachefsky (Rochester, N.Y.) had nine digs.

Reed and Mullen were selected to the all-tournament team. In four matches Reed had 29 kills, hit .339, and served six aces. Mullen registered 35 kills, hit .412, and had 16 digs.

Wentworth opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Thursday at home against Albertus Magnus.
