BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Jon Roat (Macedon, N.Y.) recorded 16 kills, hit .464, and had three blocks while junior Jake Reed (Arvada, Colo.) added 13 kills, hit .458, and added a pair of blocks to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team take a 3-0 victory of Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest Saturday night at Tansey Gymnasium.

With the win the Leopards improve to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in league play while the Wildcats fall to 6-11 (3-3).

Wentworth lead from start to finish in the first set, en route to a 25-15 win. In the set the Leopards hit .208 and forced Johnson & Wales to hit -.095. The Leopards jumped out to a 6-1 lead and would lead by as many as 12 (23-11) on a junior Alex Potts (Niverville, N.Y.) kill. Roat had four kills in the set while sophonmore Ollie Oshman (Pennnigton, N.J.) had three blocks.

The Leopards hit a match-high .484 in the second set and took the lead for good at 10-9 on a kill from Reed. Wentworth took its largest lead at 19-13 after a Johnson & Wales attack error, and, while the Wildcats pulled within three at 22-19 after an attack error, the hosts took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 win. Roat hit .538 in the set (8-1-13) while Potts added two blocks.

Johnson & Wales had three early leads in the third set with the last coming at 4-3 after a freshman Alex Seda (San Juan, P.R.) kill. Wentworth scored the next five points and took an 8-4 lead on a Reed kill. The Wildcats came with a point at 10-9 after a kill from freshman Cameron Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) and again at 11-10 after a junior Kyle MacKnight (East Northport, N.Y.) kill, however a Reed kill prevented the visitors from tying the set. Wentworth began to distance itself from Johnson & Wales late in the set and closed out the match with a 25-18 win. Reed hit an impressive .778 (7-0-9) in the set while Roat and Potts had three blocks each.

Sophomore Sean Mullen (Longwood, Fla.) added eight kills and three blocks in the win while Potts and Oshman had five and three blocks, respectively. Potts also had five kills on eight swings with zero errors. Sophomore Kevin McPeek (Bethlehem, Pa.) had 40 assists and two aces. Wentworth hit .411 for the match and had eight blocks.

Wentworth hosts Emmanuel on Thursday.
