Men's Volleyball Swings Past Emerson in GNAC Action

Boston, Mass. – Hitting .456 for the second time this season, the Wentworth men's volleyball team cruised past Emerson College 3-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening inside Brown & Plofker Gymnasium by set scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wentworth breezed to the 3-0 victory with efficient and balanced hitting, jumping to a 10-5 run in the first set using three kills from Hunter Oshman (Pennington, N.J.) A WIT service error later kept the kept at five, 16-11 midway through, before the Leopards closed the set on a 9-4 run with three kills from Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.), and one apiece from Alex McLane (Columbus, Ohio), Ian Carlson (Parker, Colo.),. Colin Stockton (Hummelstown, Pa.), and Oshman.  
  • The Leopards hit .500 in the middle set and turned two substantial runs to defeat the Lions 25-10. Wentworth was lights out in the final plays, ending the frame on an 8-0 run, thanks to a kill apiece from McLane, Stockton, and Tristan McDonough (Shelton, Conn.) alongside a service ace from Phoenix Stebbins (Harrisburg, Pa.).
  • A match-high .545 hitting percentage (13K-1E-22TA), powered Wentworth to a 25-9 set win in the last frame, leaving little room for error after Drew Potter (Towson, Md.) gave WIT a 12-6 lead. The Leopards turned a 13-2 run committing just a single error, as Vinny Sottile (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) served back-to-back aces to seal match-point.

NOTES

  • Leopards tie season-best hitting percentage of .456 and rank 9th in NCAA Division III with .300 hitting
  • Earn third straight sweep and eighth sweep overall

THE SERIES

  • Leopards run win streak to 14 matches vs the Lions and hold a 20-2 advantage in the all-time series dating back to 2009.

  • Wentworth returns to Tansey Gymnasium for a GNAC tri-match on Saturday, February 22, with Lasell and JWU. First serve between the Lasers and the Leopards is set for 11:00 a.m.
