HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Despite the result, the Leopards hung with the 11-time national champions, as both teams were tied 15-15 in the middle of the first set following a kill from Alex McLane (Columbus, Ohio). The Pride used a 7-0 run to pull away, including three consecutive service aces from Brennen Brandow for the 21-15 lead. Two kills from Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.) and a kill from Ian Carlson (Parker, Colo.) gave Wentworth its final points of the set, as Springfield closed with the final four of seven points. The Leopards hit a team-best .346 in the set, but unfortunately so did Springfield, hitting .684 with 14 kills and one error on 19 swings.
  • Love, Hunter Oshman (Pennington, N.J.), and Colin Stockton (Hummelstown, Pa.) helped guide Wentworth to a 9-9 score in the second set, including an opening block from the Love/Stockton duo. Down 11-10, Wentworth burned a timeout after the Pride used a 3-0 run for the 14-10 score, but Springfield came out of the break with a kill from Liam York, 15-10. Springfield would hold onto the five-point margin until the final point, another kill from Liam York and the 25-20 final.
  • Neither team hit particularly well in the third, as WIT hit in the negative category for the first time since their February 6th match vs. #14 ranked Endicott. The Pride used a spirited 10-1 run to pull away in the final set and held off WIT's response of an 8-1 run with a kill and an ace from Carlson.
