HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After scoring the first two points of the opening set, Wentworth held a 3-2 lead after a service error pulled Eastern Nazarene within a point. The Leopards rolled off a 9-0 run – with five of those points coming from freshman Jacob LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) who started the run with a kill and served four aces. The Lions scored seven of the next 12 points and trailed, 17-9, after a freshman Leonel Caceres (Newington, Conn.) kill. Senior David Marsh (Springfield, Mass.) put down a kill which began an 8-0 run to close the set. After Marsh's kill, freshman Jacob Waga (East Northport, N.Y.) served the next seven points with five of those points coming by way of an ace.
  • The second set was back-and forth with seven ties, the seventh coming at 9-all after an Eastern Nazarene service error. That point started a 7-2 run for the Black & Gold, giving them a 16-11 lead after a Lion attack error. The hosts crept back and came with one at 20-19 on a Wentworth attack error, however, a service error put the Leopards ahead 21-19 and started a 5-1 spurt with a kill from Marsh ending the set, 25-20.
  • Wentworth raced out to a 7-1 lead to start the third set after freshmen Tyler Jack (San Hose, Calif.) and LaBouliere combined for a block. The Leopards led, 15-8, however, the Lions pulled within three (18-15) after a Leopard service error. An Eastern Nazarene service error gave the Black & Gold a 19-15 lead and a kill from LaBouliere ended the set, 25-20, and gave Wentworth the straight-set win.
  • Graduate student Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.) had seven kills and five digs while Marsh hit 1.000 with five kills (5-0-5) and also had a pair of blocks.
