Men's Volleyball Sweeps Lasell on Senior Night

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Tyler Jack (San Jose, Calif.) recorded 13 kills and graduate student Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.) chipped in with 12 while hitting .417 as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept Lasell, 3-0, on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth held Lasell to -.031 hitting in the opening set and used an 11-4 run to turn a 3-all score into a 14-7 lead. The 14th point came on a Jack kill. While the Lasers were able to pull within three at 15-12, freshman Jacob Waga (East Northport, N.Y.) was on the line for six straight points as the Leopards extended their lead to 21-12 and won the opening set, 25-17, after Love put down a kill. Jack had eight kills in the opening frame.
  • The Black & Gold hit a match-high .435 and forced Lasell to hit -.042 in the second set, taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-14 win. Love had five kills in the set and did not make an error on nine swings (.556). Leading 8-5, Wentworth used a 7-1 run to break the set open and score the last six points of the set with freshman Anthony Krzykowski (Feeding Hills, Mass.) putting down a solo block to end the set.
  • The third set featured four ties and a pair of lead changes as the teams went back and forth early on. Trailing 7-5, Wentworth used an 8-4 run, capped off by a sophomore Colin Stockton (Hummelstown, Pa.) kill to take a 13-11 lead. While the Lasers pulled within one on two occasions, Love put down a kill to make it 20-16. Lasell made one last run, cutting Wentworth's lead to one (23-22), however, seniors David Marsh (Springfield, Mass.) and Ryan Engel (Floral Park, N.Y.) had back-to-back kills to end the match. Stockton was nearly perfect in the set, hitting .857 (6-0-7).
  • In addition to Jack and Love combining for 25 kills Stockton and Engel had eight kills apiece. Stockton also had four blocks, as did Marsh and Krzykowski. Krzykowski also had 36 assists and served three aces. Senior Peter Klembczyk had 11 digs.

THE SERIES:

  • Today was the 46th all-time series meeting between the two programs. Wentworth holds a 28-18 series edge.
