WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • While the first set saw eight ties and two lead changes, Springfield used a 9-2 run to break away from Wentworth and took a 20-13 lead. The Pride hit .455 in the opening set, however, Leopard graduate student Ryan Engel (Floral Park, N.Y.) had four kills in the set for the Black & Gold.
  • A evenly played second set saw Springfield get some breathing room when the Pride took a 16-12 lead. However, Wentworth battled back to come within one at 19-18 on an Engel kill and a freshman Jacob LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) block tied the set at 20-all. Engel served an ace to give Wentworth its first lead of the set but an error tied the set at 21-all. Springfield had set point at 24-22 but it was staved off when graduate student Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.) recorded a kill and he and Marsh combined on a block to tie the score for the eighth time in the set. Two Pride attack errors gave the hosts a 26-24 win. Springfield hit -.040 in the set.
  • With the score tied at 6-all in the third set, Wentworth rolled off seven straight points, taking a 13-6 lead after a kill from Love. The Pride came back and tied the set at 21-all before Wentworth eventually had set point at 24-23 when Marsh put down a kill. Springfield fended off set point with a kill but Engel put his team up 2-1 with back-to-back kills, giving Wentworth a 26-24 win. Love had eight kills during the set.
  • The fourth set was all Springfield early as the Pride held a 16-9 lead. Using an 9-4 run which was capped off by a block from Marsh, Wentworth pulled within two at 20-18. Springfield led by three two more times, including at 22-19 but six straight Wentworth points, which included a block from Engel and sophomore Colin Stockton (Hummelstown, Pa.) gave the Leopards a 25-22 win in the fourth set and the 3-1 win over the top-ranked Pride. LaBouliere had six kills on 12 swings without an error in the fourth set.
  • Klembczyk finished with 12 digs and now has 825 career digs, breaking the mark of Mike Buonincontra '14.
  • Love led three players with double figures in kills, recording 16 to go along with six blocks. LaBouliere had 14 kills while Engel had 10 kills. In addition to his 11 blocks, Marsh had four kills while freshman Anthony Krzykowski (Feeding Hills, Mass.) finished with 45 assists.
