BOSTON, Mass. – The top-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team (8-0, 2-0 GNAC) kept their unbeaten streak alive Tuesday night in conference play, topping crosstown rival Emmanuel (3-4, 0-1 GNAC) in straight-sets for their eighth straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A kill and service ace by junior Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio) gave Wentworth a 2-1 edge in the first set. Behind 3-2, five straight points for the Leopards, including two kills by senior Jacob LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.), marked a 7-3 advantage before three straight service aces by junior Ryan Roller (West Hartford, Conn.) pushed the lead to 13-5. Two kills by LaBouliere and one aside for Etter and freshman Conner Foxwell (Harrisburg, Pa.) continued the lead to 21-9 before errors plagued the Saints, giving Wentworth a 25-12 first set win.
- Two kills by graduate student Brandon Dunz (Lake View, N.Y.) helped give the Leopards a 5-2 advantage in the second set before a kill by sophomore Benjamin Moughon (Mercer Island, Wash.) pushed the lead to 9-4. A kill by senior Jacob Waga (East Northport, N.Y.) marked a 10-6 score before the Saints battled back, with the two teams trading scores to ties at 16-16, 17-17, and 18-18. Two kills from LaBouliere gave the Leopards a 20-19 edge before another by the senior marked a tie at 21 aside. A kill by LaBouliere and block by the Waga-Dunz duo earned the Leopards a 25-22 set win.
- Two kills by Dunz and one apiece for LaBouliere and Waga pushed the Leopards out to a 7-2 lead in the third set before a kill by sophomore Nicolai Bell (Moraga, Calif.) continued the advantage to 10-6. Kills by LaBouliere and Dunz pushed the lead to 15-8 before a kill by Etter marked a 20-10 score. Kills by Dunz, Etter, and Bell handed the Leopards a 25-16 set win and another match sweep.
