#9 Men's Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Six, Takes Down Emmanuel
Leopards hold off Saints for four-set win; Mason Andrade (14 kills) and Mekhi Burns (13 digs) each tally match-highs, respectively
BOSTON, Mass. – Mason Andrade struck a match-high 14 kills and Mekhi Burns anchored a match-high 13 digs as the No. 9-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team pushed their win streak to six Wednesday night with a four-set win over conference rival Emmanuel.
With the win, the Leopards boost their overall record to 8-1 and 2-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Saints slip to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Two kills set the Leopards out to a 4-2 lead in the first set before a finish by Conner Foxwell later marked a 7-4 advantage. Wentworth carried the lead to 13-9 and 14-10 scores before four straight points, featuring a kill by Andrade, marked a 19-13 lead. Two kills by Andrade took part in a 5-1 run for the Black & Gold, marking a 24-14 set, before the Leopards later took the frame 25-17.
- Emmanuel jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second stanza before the Leopards clawed back at 8-6 with two kills from Andrade and another by Foxwell. The two teams swapped scores to a 13-11 set before the Saints rattled off a 6-1 run to stretch their lead to 19-12. Two aces by Andrade helped cut the lead at 20-16, but Emmanuel would hold on for a 25-20 set win later on.
- After Emmanuel took a 6-4 edge in the third set, the Leopards rallied with the help of an Alem Dubcak kill to take an 8-6 lead. Two aces by Andrade later in the set marked a 16-12 advantage before back-to-back finishes by Ryan Roller and Ian Babcock marked a 20-16 score. Kills by Foxwell and Andrade in the final going earned Wentworth a 25-18 set win.
- The Leopards raced out to 9-3 and 10-4 leads in the fourth frame, featuring two finishes from Foxwell in the run. Two kills from Babcock and another by Nicolai Bell helped mark a 16-6 lead before two kills from Andrade and other by Babcock and Foxwell helped seal a 25-12 set win for the Black & Gold.

- Wentworth has won 15 straight matchups between the two teams.
