#11 Men’s Volleyball Cruises Past Regis, Rivier; Stays Undefeated in GNAC Play
Leopards sweep Pride and Raiders thanks to a handful of key contributors; Sam Etter records 19 putaways in the two contests combined
WESTON, Mass. – In Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match action Saturday afternoon, the No. 11-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept both Regis and Rivier in straight sets to remain unbeaten in conference play.
With the pair of wins, the Leopards boost their marks to 22-5 overall and 11-0 in the GNAC. The Pride now sit at 17-11 (5-7 GNAC) while the Raiders slipped to 9-14 (4-7 GNAC).
MATCH ONE: #11 WENTWORTH 3, REGIS 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A kill apiece for Matthew Zegowitz, Alek Reymond, and Gabe Tucker gave the Leopards a 6-5 edge in the first set before two kills by Moughon paced some separation to a later lead of 14-11. Regis came back to take a 16-15 edge before two finishes by Sam Etter kickstarted a 5-1 run in which the Leopards took a 20-17 lead. After a back-and-forth in the later going, kills from Moughon and Tucker clinched a 25-22 set win.
- Three putaways from Etter and two aces from Moughon pushed Wentworth ahead 5-0 in the second set before two kills from Tucker and another by Reymond marked an 11-4 lead. A kill from Etter marked a 15-8 advantage before the Pride roared back, cutting the deficit to three at 15-12. A finish by Zegowitz paced Wentworth's lead to 20-16 before a final putaway by Etter helped the Leopards claim a 25-18 set win.
- Two finishes by Etter sparked a 6-0 run for the Leopards to begin the third set before two kills by Tucker and another by Reymond marked an 11-5 lead. Two kills by Tucker and another by Etter extended the advantage to an 18-12 score before Regis later clawed back to knot the set at 21-all. Four straight points, featuring a kill aside for Etter and Reymond, earned the Leopards a 25-21 set win.

- The Leopards swept the Pride back in February and lead the all-time series, 22-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Raiders grabbed a 4-2 lead early in the first set before two kills from Conner Foxwell and another by Andrew Ahn marked a draw at 5-5. A finish by Nicolai Bell pulled Wentworth away at 9-6 before a putaway by Etter marked 12-11 edge. A kill aside by Bell and Ahn helped continue the lead to 18-16 before two kills by Foxwell and another by Jacob Waga paced the Leopards to a 25-22 set win.
- A kill by Waga marked a 4-4 tie in the second frame before Rivier pulled ahead with an 8-4 lead. Wentworth responded with an 8-1 run, giving themselves a 12-9 lead, before kills by Etter, Foxwell, and Bell marked a 16-14 advantage later on. Three kills from Waga crept the lead from 20-18, to 21-20, to then 22-21 before kills by Foxwell and Etter helped the Black & Gold hold on for a 25-22 set win.
- The two teams swapped scores to open the third set before the Leopards raced out to a 12-3 advantage, with the run featuring three kills by Waga. Finishes by Bell and Foxwell helped extend the lead to 17-9 before the two teams swapped kills to a 21-12 score. A finish by Etter marked a 23-15 score before Rivier clawed back, cutting the deficit later to just 24-20 before Wentworth clinched the frame on an error.
SERIES NOTES:
- The Black & Gold have taken nine straight matchups against the Raiders, including a sweep back on February 7.
