Men's Cross Country Takes Fourth at CNE Championship
Leopards earn seventh top four finish in 10 championships; Ezra Blasko and Ryan Ballard finish ninth and 10th, respectively
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – With a pair of top 10 finishes, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team placed fourth at the Conference of New England Championship, run on the campus of Western New England University
The Leopards scored 105 points to earn their seventh top-four finish in the 10 seasons the Black & Gold have competed at the conference championship. Roger Williams took home the title with 37 points with Suffolk (50) and Endicott (96) placing second and third, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- For the fourth time this season, Ezra Blasko was Wentworth's top finisher, crossing the line in a time of 26:01.72 to earn ninth place. Blasko was the first rookie among conference competitors to finish the race and will be named the CNE Rookie of the Year when awards are announced. He is the first Wentworth men's cross country student-athlete to earn this honor.
- Ryan Ballard also finished in the top 10, placing 10th with a time of 26:08.61.
- Joey Cotta was the Leopards' third runner to finish , placing 29th (26 points) with a time of 27:42.51.
- Mark Murphy placed 40th (33 points), crossing the line in a time of 28:14.38.
- A 44th-place finish from Teddy Doyle in a time of 28:30.53 gave the Black & Gold 34 points to round out Wentworth's scoring runners.
- Nathan Bergquist-Guimond placed 54th (28:49.22), Dylan Brilliant was 70th (29:27.95), Jack Newton placed 75th (29:41.32), Hayden Pierce crossed the line in a time of 29:49.74 for a 78th-place finish, Sean Giuliano was 92nd (30:49.84), Jacob Thomas finished 96th (31:27.62), and Robbie McCue placed 106th (33:20.25).
NOTEWORTHY:
- Blasko and Ballard will be named All-Conference of New England when all-conference teams and major award winners are announced next week. For Ballard, it's his third straight honor.
