WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Two solid performances on both ends of the diamond helped the Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team (3-5) to a pair of commanding wins over Elizabethtown (2-6) and Pitt.-Greensburg (3-7) on Friday.
GAME ONE: WENTWORTH 5, ELIZABETHTOWN 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With the bases loaded in the first inning, a ground out from Jess Rowe plated a runner. Later on, Lexi Lefkowski capitalized on a fielder's choice, driving home a run by Kelsey Medalia to mark a 2-0 lead for Wentworth.
- The Blue Jays knotted the score with a run apiece in the second and third inning, marking a 2-2 game. In the back half of the third, the Leopards broke the tie on a sac fly from Sydney Miccile, plating a run by Lefkowski to raise the score to 3-2.
- A single from Miccile in the fourth inning with two runners in scoring position plated one, extending Wentworth's lead to 4-2. A walk with the bases loaded later on drove in another run to push the game to 5-2.
- After two Blue Jays got on base in the seventh inning to threaten the score, Julie Schriver retired the following three, ending the threat and earning her second win of the season. The junior struck out two and only surrendered five hits in a complete game.
