BOSTON, Mass. – In an effort to raise cancer awareness, both on and off the court, the Wentworth women's basketball team will hold its annual "Pink Day" this Saturday during its season finale against Curry College. The game, which starts at 1:00, will be held in conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association's "Play 4Kay" initiative, a cause the Leopards have been involved in for the last four years.
Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink and those who do will be entered into a raffle for some great prizes and we are encouraging everyone to make a donation to this worthy cause. All money collected will be donated to organizations that support research and treatment of this disease.
Following the women's game, the men's basketball team will play Curry both teams' regular-season finale. Prior to the opening tip, the Leopards' two seniors, Adam Dombrowski and Eric Prue will be honored for their outstanding careers.
Play 4Kay, formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone, is an initiative that allows a nation of coaches to raise awareness and funds for cancer research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The late Kay Yow, former NC State University head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst for Play 4Kay after her third recurrence of breast cancer in 2006. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009.
Since 2006, thousands have joined Coach Yow's team in the fight against breast cancer and raised over $1.5 million for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
