Women's Basketball Notches First Win

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Four players scored in double figures to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team even its record on the young season at 1-1 as the Leopards downed Pine Manor, 74-50. With the win the Leopards improve to 1-1 while the Gators fall to 0-1.
 
Wentworth never trailed in the contest after opening the game on a 10-1 run. Senior Jordan Biggar (Beverly, Mass.) finished the game with a team-high 14 points, junior Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points while collecting a game-high 14 rebounds. senior Ashley Conway (Danvers, Mass.) and junior Ashley Stowe (Voluntown, Conn.) finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Pine Manor closed the gap to as little as two points, at 20-18, after freshman Alexis Lee (Akron, Ohio) made back-to-back shots with just less than six minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Gators would get no closer for the remainder of the contest as Wentworth would stretch the lead back to ten points (30-20), by halftime. Lee finished the contest with a game-high 20 points for PMC.

In the second half, the visitors would continue to increase their lead as Wentworth led by as many as 33 points following a jumper by Biggar with 4:16 to play. Wentworth held a commanding 47-22 rebounding advantage in the game, while also collecting 17 assists as a team.

For Pine Manor, freshman Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) also finished in double figures with 14 points, as she was one of five Pine Manor freshman, along with Lee, Khiyana Isaac (Boston, Mass.), Meagan Badohu (Boston, Mass.), and Shaniesha Williams (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) to make their collegiate debut on Saturday.

Wentworth will travel to Emerson on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., while Pine Manor will be back in action when the Gators host Bay Path on Wednesday November 28.
