Women's Basketball Rolls Past Lesley

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Ashley Stowe (Voluntown, Conn.) scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Wentworth women's basketball team defeated Lesley, 47-27, in a non-conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium.

The Leopards scored the first nine points of the contest, culminating with one of two free throws from junior Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) with 12:36 left. The Lynx were held off of the scoreboard for the first 11:48 before freshman Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) buried a 3-pointer. That basket was followed by a shot from behind the arc from freshman Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong) and a basket by junior Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.), which cut the lead to 9-8 with 6:25 remaining.

Wentworth responded with a 15-1 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from senior Ashley Conway (Danvers, Mass.), to make it 24-9 with just over three minutes to play and led, 26-11, at the break. The Leopards held Lesley to 15.6 percent shooting from the floor in the first half and forced 16 turnovers. Conway had eight first half points, while Kerr added seven.

After the Lynx scored to open the second half, the Leopards scored the next eight points – capped off by a pair of free throws from freshman Rachael Camara (Fall River, Mass.) – and took their largest lead of the night at 34-13. Wentworth would lead by 21 on two other occasions before Lesley cut the lead to as few as 15 with 4:01 left. A basket by Stowe and three points from Camara pushed the final margin to 20.

Kerr finished with nine points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while Conway ended with eight points. Freshman Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Maine) had a team-high 10 caroms for the Black & Gold, which held a 46-38 rebounding edge and forced 27 Lesley turnovers.

Lesley was led by Dimou's seven points, with sophomore Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) had six points and game-high 11 rebounds in the loss.

Winners of three straight home games, Wentworth improves to 5-3 and is at Gordon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest on Saturday. Lesley dropped its third straight, falling to 1-7. The Lynx are idle until Jan. 8 when they resume New England Collegiate Conference play at Elms.
