MILTON, Mass. – Curry College outlasted visiting Wentworth, 62-53, on Senior Day in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball contest Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels close out the regular season with a 10-15 overall record and a 6-12 mark in league play, while the Leopards finish at 11-14 overall and 6-12 in CCC action. The victory gives Curry the seventh seed heading into the playoffs, while Wentworth settles for the eighth spot.
The Colonels took their biggest lead of the first half (26-20) after sophomore Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) hit a jumper at the 2:54 mark. The Leopards chipped away and cut the deficit to two (28-26) heading into the break after freshman Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Maine) sank a pair from the charity stripe with four seconds on the clock.
With 19:01 remaining in regulation, Wentworth junior Ashley Stowe (Voluntown, Conn.) converted a jump shot to tie the game at 30-30. Curry responded with a 14-4 run over the next 6:20 to take a ten-point edge (44-34). Sophomore Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) started the run with a made layup and Corcoran capped it off with a three-pointer.
The Leopards trimmed the lead to four (50-46) after senior Ashley Conway (Danvers, Mass.) converted a layup with 8:07 left in the second frame. The Colonels scored the next six points and maintained a steady lead throughout the remainder of the game en route to the 62-53 final.
Fallon led Curry with a game-high 21 points. Corcoran added 15 points and pulled down a team-best 11 boards to record a double-double.
Wentworth was led by junior Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) with 17 points, while senior Jordan Biggar (Beverly, Mass.) scored 12. Rogers recorded a game-high 14 rebounds.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for CCC quarterfinal contests. The seventh-seeded Colonels will visit second-seeded Roger Williams, while the eighth-place Leopards travel to top-seeded University of New England.
