First Half Run Sends Nor'Easters Past Women's Basketball

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England rattled off 28 straight points in a span of 5:47 during the crossover between the first and second quarters, en route to a 91-40 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball win over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Seven different players scored during the spurt – led by Jocelyn Chaput (Nashua, N.H.) with seven – as the Nor'easters extended their lead (12-6) to a 40-6 cushion with 5:30 left before halftime.

UNE won for the seventh straight outing, improving to 13-5 overall and 9-2 in league play.

Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) paced the home squad with 16 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Chaput was the second of five players in double digits with 14 points, and 13 apiece came from Kristie McNall (Wakefield, Mass.) and Sadie Nelson (Windham, Maine). Laura Holman (Mostar, Croatia) tossed in 10 points with five assists, and Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) added nine points and a game-high nine boards.

Supporting the winning cause was Lindsey Howland (New Braintree, Mass.) with eight rebounds – a category that UNE controlled by 56-28 margin with 25 offensive caroms. Sam MacDonald (Lebanon, N.H.) had seven assists and four steals, helping the Nor'easters translate 27 Wentworth turnovers into 34 points.

For the Leopards, Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) totaled 12 points. Kellie Messer (Hollis, N.H.) had eight boards.

UNE heads to Springfield, Mass. on Saturday for a key match-up with Western New England. Wentworth is back in Boston at the same time to entertain Endicott.
