Emerson Shuts Down Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emerson College women's basketball team jumped to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology 91-43 in non-conference action inside Brown & Plofker Gymnasium.

Emerson (3-2) shot 65.0% in the first 10 minutes, and used 5-for-7 shooting from three-point territory to break out to a 32-7 lead. Emerson sophomore Ashley Toner (Barnegat, N.J.) continued Emerson's dominance from behind the arc in their first play of the second quarter, before junior Emily Magasic (West Milford, N.J.) put the Leopards on the board with a jumper at 8:11. With 6:18 left in the half, sophomore Stephanie Mini (Topsfield, Mass.) drained a three-pointer to give Wentworth double-digits on the scoreboard, as both teams then battled back and forth, with Emerson holding a 50-23 lead at halftime.

The Lions outscored Wentworth 26-8 in the third quarter, including 11 points from junior Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and held a 12-7 advantage on the boards during the stretch. Wentworth saw Magasic go 3-for-4 from the line with two jump shots for seven points in the fourth, but Emerson's early damage sealed the non-conference victory for the hosts.

Magasic finished with 11 points, which ties her career-high that she set in December of last season. She also added five rebounds, while sophomore Erin Morton (Norway, Maine), senior Michelle McCloskey (Madison, Conn.), and sophomore Molley Duclos (Greenfield, Mass.) pulled down four rebounds apiece. Junior Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) rounded out double-digit scoring for Wentworth, going 3-for-7 from three-point range.

The Leopards return to action after the Thanksgiving break, and will host Gordon College in their home opener on November 28 at 5:30 p.m.
