Hawks Run Away with Conference Victory over Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Stephanie Mini (Topsfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points, but it wasn't enough as Roger Williams ran away with a 65-41 win over the Wentworth women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon inside Tansey Gymnasium.

The contest was evenly matched throughout the first 20 minutes, with Wentworth commanding the lead until 1:05 remained in the first quarter. Junior Maya Spence (Georgetown, Mass.) broke a 10-10 tie with a good shot from the line, before Roger Williams senior Margarita Delaporta (Canton, Mass.) sank a three-pointer which turned a 5-0 run for the Hawks.

Trailing by as many as seven points in the second frame (26-19), the Leopards clawed back with a 5-0 run ignited by a deep trey from Mini to pull within two, 26-24. Wentworth struggled from the floor after the break while Roger Williams shot 53.3% in the third quarter, led by 10 points and 100% shooting from the floor from junior Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) The Hawks outscored the Leopards 15-6 in the fourth quarter, sealing the 65-41 conference victory.

Mini added six rebounds to her game-high 19 points, while Morton followed with 15 points, three assists, and three boards to round out double figures for the Leopards.

Sophomore Alyssa Grant (Berlin, Conn.) led three Hawks in double figures on the scoreboard with 16 points, while Leone and junior Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, Mass.) scored 14 and 10, respectively. Sophomore Sam Mancinelli (Peabody, Mass.) and Leone each pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the effort.
