Roger Williams Outmatches Women's Basketball

Boston, Mass. – Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Roger Williams University went on the offensive to defeat the Wentworth women's basketball team 74-42 on Saturday afternoon inside Tansey Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams traded opening baskets to open the league contest, before Roger Williams' Sam Mancinelli broke a 4-4 tie with a shot from downtown. The Hawks staged a 13-4 run over the final six minutes of play, and built a hefty advance of 20-8 after the first ten minutes. Collectively, the Hawks shot 50% from the floor in the stanza while Gabby Jerahian booked seven points for the visitors.
  • Wentworth had its best offensive showing in the second quarter and put up 14 points before halftime, led by eight from junior Erin Morton (Norway, Maine). The Hawks answered the Leopards' attack, scoring 17 points of their own to hold a 37-22 lead at halftime.
  • The Hawks went 10-for-15 in the third quarter, paced by Karli Opalka's six points. A 16-8 run over the first five minutes set the Hawks up by 23 points, 53-30, with 4:47 remaining in the quarter. Roger Williams held Wentworth to just eight points, six of which were bucketed by junior Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.), before outscoring the Black & Gold 14-11 to close out the contest.

  • Wentworth will have a week of rest before suiting up for its final game of the semester on Saturday, December 14th. Tip-off between the Leopards and the blazers of Elms College is slated for 1:00 p.m. inside Tansey Gymnasium.
