Women's Basketball Gives UNE Trouble; Nor'easters Pull Off League Win

Boston, Mass. – Juniors Erin Morton (Norway, Maine) and Molley Duclos (Greenfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 12 points each in a hard-fought battle against top Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent UNE on Tuesday evening. The Nor'easters pulled out the ten-point win, 52-42, inside Harold Alfond Forum.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards stuck with the league-leading Nor'easters throughout the first ten minutes, as junior Molley Duclos (Greenfield, Mass.) sank a jumper with 26 seconds left that shrunk a five-point deficit to three, 11-8. Duclos and classmate Erin Morton (Norway, Maine) each scored four points in the opening stanza, before junior Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) bucketed five points in the second to lead the Leopard offense. The Nor'easters found their rhythm just before half, and used a 14-8 run to lead 25-16 going into halftime.
  • Wentworth came flying out of the gates after the break, and turned an 11-5 run led by four points from Duclos, three from Kelley, and two apiece from Morton and freshman Isabella Perez (Homestead, Fla.) to pull within a single possession, 30-27. UNE, which went 4-31 from three-point rage, converted from long range to bring the score up 33-27, but Morton answered with a drive in the paint and the 33-29 margin.
  • Both teams shot their best percentage in the last quarter, however UNE continued to struggle from long range and went 1-for-5 behind the arc. The Leopards shot 42.9%, led by four apiece from Morton and Duclos, but UNE held on for the ten-point lead.


 

NOTES

  • Three starters scored in double figures for the Leopards.
  • Wentworth held UNE to its second lowest shooting percentage this season.
  • The Black & Gold owned a 30-28 advantage in defensive rebounding.
