Bristol, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team shot 49.3% and scored 44 points in the first half en route to an 80-55 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Roger Williams jumped to a 9-0 lead over the first two minutes before senior Emily Magasic (West Milford, N.J.) sank two at the line to put the Leopards on the board. The Hawks turned another 9-0 run using four points from Karli Opalka, and extended its lead by 15 points, 20-5 after a layup from Sam Leone. Junior Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) made the first long-range shot for Wentworth with 24 seconds to go in the first quarter as the Hawks led 22-10.
  • The Leopards scored 15 points in the second quarter of the game, but shots continued to fall for Roger Williams, which outscored the visitors 22-15 in the frame. At half, Roger Williams went up by 19, 44-25 with a last-second layup from Opalka.
  • Roger Williams outscored the Leopards by just six points in the second half (36-30), but the early damage allowed the Hawks to lead by double digits throughout the entirety of the fourth quarter.

  • Morton and Duclos have each scored in double figures in the last three games
  • The Hawks outrebounded the Leopards 46-27, while both teams scored 16 points apiece off the other's turnovers.
  • The Leopard bench outscored the home pine by two points, 20-18, led by five apiece from Winnie Kenou and Samantha Cormier.
