HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Maria scored the first four points of the game, taking a 4-0 lead on a layup by sophomore Marinique Reddin (Tampa, Fla.). Using an 8-1 run, Wentworth took an 8-5 lead on a layup from sophomore Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) with 4:40 left in the quarter. The AMCATS tied the game on a three from junior Gina Parmenter (Oxford, Mass.), however, a 7-2 spurt from the Leopards gave the hosts a 15-10 lead after one quarter of play. Sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) had Wentworth's final five points of the quarter.
  • The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair with Reddin giving Anna Maria a 20-17 lead with 5:30 left after hitting a three. David answered with a three of her own, however, a layup from Reddin and a three from graduate student Julitza Delgado (Southbridge, Mass.) gave the AMCATS a 25-20 lead with 3:13 left. Sophomore gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) connected on a layup on Wentworth's next possession, which started a 9-0 run and gave the Leopards a 29-25 lead at the break.
  • A jumper by Amoddio and four straight points from Foster gave the Black & Gold a 10-point (35-25) lead three minutes into the third quarter. After nearly three and a half minutes of no scoring, Reddin made a layup and followed with two free throws on the next possession to cut the lead to 35-31 with 2:59 left. A Carroll layup and four straight Foster points pushed Wentworth's advantage back to 10 before the AMCATS scored three straight points to close out the quarter, trailing by seven (41-34).
  • A minute and 37 seconds into the fourth quarter, Busbey hit a three to give the hosts a 10-point lead. Using a 15-0 run, Anna Maria took a 49-44 lead with 2:46 left after Delgado hit two free throws. A David layup started an 8-4 spurt which saw Carroll hit a three to make it a one-point (53-52) game with 9.8 seconds left. One of two Parmenter free throws increased the lead to 54-52 with just under nine seconds left. After the miss, Busbey fed David, who put the hosts on top, 55-54, with 5.3 ticks to play. One of two free throws from Reddin with 3.4 seconds left tied the game and sent it to overtime.
  • The extra session saw Parmenter give the AMCATS a 57-55 lead before Busbey followed with a layup to tie the game. Amoddio hit three free throws over a span of 36 seconds, giving the Black & Gold a 60-57 advantage with 1:52 left. Four straight points from Reddin gave Anna Maria a 61-60 lead with 1:06 left before Carroll's jumper with 55 seconds left gave Wentworth a 62-61 edge. Reddin followed with a pair of free throws to give Anna Maria a 63-62 lead with 29 seconds left. David's mid-range jumper from the left side put the Leopards ahead, 64-63.
  • Out of a time out, the AMCATS had two chances to take the lead, however, missed both, with Busbey getting the rebound off the second miss. She was fouled and hit both free throws, extending the lead to three (66-63) with five seconds left. A last-second three attempt fell short, giving the hosts the win.
  • Reddin led all scorers with 28 points to go along with 13 rebounds while Parmenter added 17. Wentworth was led by Foster, who had 19 points and 12 rebounds. David finished with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists, and Carroll had 15 points and three steals.
