Nor'Easters Run Away From Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Juliana Tracey (Quincy, Mass.) scored 19 points as the game's highest pointer-getter en route to a 72-41 win for the Nor'Easters of the University of New England over the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A dry early portion of the first quarter was broken by two points from junior Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) 43 seconds into the game. It wasn't until the 5:54 mark that UNE answered with a three-pointer from Tracey, putting the Nor'Easters ahead by a 3-2 score. UNE rattled off nine-straight points, with six more coming from Tracey, to push their lead to 12-2. Sophomore Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) broke their streak, putting the score at 12-4. After UNE notched another two points, Wentworth scored five-straight, including three from David, to mark the score at 14-9. The Nor'Easters scored a three to end the quarter ahead 17-9.
  • UNE paced the second quarter with a 22-2 run that featured two three-pointers from freshman Nora Barmashi (Bourne, Mass.), one three-pointer from freshman Grace Boucher (Wells, Maine), and six points from junior Faye Veilleux (Wrentham, Mass.), bringing the score to 39-11. Shortly thereafter, Wentworth scored two baskets with scores coming from sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) and sophomore Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) to bring the score to 39-15 at the half.
  • The Nor'Easters continued their scoring splurge into the third quarter with an 11-4 run that included another three from Boucher, bringing the score to 50-19. Sophomore Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) drained a three-pointer to mark the score at 50-22. After a free throw make by Veilleux, senior Francesca Farrell (Stoneham, Mass.) made a layup to mark a 51-24 score. The two teams traded baskets and maintained the 27-point differential to a 60-33 score until two successful free throws from freshman Kasey Oliver (Dartmouth, Mass.) extended UNE's lead to 62-33 after three quarters of play.
  • Amoddio scored the initial basket of the final quarter to bring the score to 62-35. After another basket by Barmashi, Farrell made a layup to bring the score to 64-37. The Nor'Easters outscored the Leopards 8-4 in the final going of the fourth quarter, bringing the ultimate score of the contest to 72-41.
