Women's Basketball Outscores Maine-Fort Kent in Record-Setting Fashion

BOSTON, Mass. – It was a record-setting day for the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team as the team clinched a 103-77 win over the University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals in a non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon. 103 points scored marked a record-high for the program, and the Leopards' six-person lineup all scored in double figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth started the day on a 9-3 run, with senior Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) capping the run with a three-pointer. Maine Fort Kent made a three of their own off the hands of senior Jzane Cavalli-Money (South Sacramento, Calif.) to cut the deficit to 9-6. The two teams traded baskets to an 11-8 score until junior Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) nailed a three to extend the lead to 14-8. The Bengals sputtered off the next eight points to give themselves a 16-14 lead. The two teams traded baskets to work up to a 21-19 score, with the Leopards go-ahead basket scored by sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) to end the first quarter.
  • The Leopards opened the second quarter on a 20-0 run that featured threes from Carroll and sophomore Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) to extend their lead to 41-19. After a layup made by sophomore Arieyle Baker (Lake Wales, Fla.), Wentworth rattled off ten-straight points, including a three from Busbey, to push their lead to 51-21. Sophomore Kayla Iwata (Hilo, Hawaii) scored a three-pointer before another two points for the Bengals to cut the deficit to 51-27. The two teams traded baskets to end the quarter, with Iwata making a buzzer-beating three to give the game a 54-32 score.
  • Amoddio and Cavalli-Money traded threes to give the second half an initial score of 57-35. After a layup made by sophomore Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine), Cavalli-Money drained another three to bring the score to 59-38. The rest of the quarter was a back-and-forth scoring affair, resulting in the Leopards extending their lead by five in a 76-50 score, before Cavalli-Money hit a three to make the score 76-53 after three quarters of play.
  • The two teams traded baskets to start the fourth quarter, with the Leopards getting a key layup from senior Francesca Farrell (Stoneham, Mass.), to hold their lead of 27 at 86-59. Iwata drained two three-pointers while Wentworth scored four points to make the score 90-65. The Bengals outscored the Leopards 5-2, working up to a 92-70 score, until a three from Amoddio pushed the Leopards lead up to 95-70. Wentworth outscored UMFK 8-7 to have the game end in a 103-77 score.
  • Today's score marked a new program record for the Leopards as the most points scored. They also tied a previous record for most assists in a game with 30.
  • All six members of the Leopards tallied double figures points, while Foster recorded a double-double (20 points, 15 rebounds) for the second straight game. Cavalli-Money led the Bengals with a game-high 27 points.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today was the first time the two teams have met since 2011. The Leopards have won all three of the meetings.
