Women's Basketball Falls to Western New England

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to the Western New England Golden Bears 72-30 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • WNE got off to a 4-0 start that was answered by two free throw makes by junior Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) and a layup by sophomore Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine), knotting the score at 4-4. The Golden Bears rattled off a 24-4 run, ignited by three pointers by sophomore Emma Kahn (Thomaston, Conn.) and senior Abby Garaban (Maplewood, N.J.), making the score 28-8 after the first quarter.
  • The Golden Bears sputtered off a 15-4 run to extend their lead in the second quarter. Their run was stabilized with a three pointer by freshman Paige Winter (Essex, Vt.), while the Leopards two baskets from sophomore Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) and Foster, making the score 43-12.
  • WNE scored the first four points of the third quarter that were answered by two baskets from sophomore Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Foster to bring the score to 47-16. The Golden Bears ended the third quarter on a 10-6 run. Foster scored four points for the Leopards while the Golden Bears got four points from sophomore Shaina Cooney (Montgomery, N.Y.) to make the score 57-22 after three quarters of play.
  • The Golden Bears outscored the Leopards 15-8 in the final quarter of play. The Black & Gold got a three-pointer from sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) in the run while Winter and junior Caeli Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) notched threes for WNE, marking the final score at 72-30.
  • Foster led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Cooney with 12. WNE outrebounded Wentworth 45-20.

 

SERIES NOTES:

  • Tonight marked the 27th meeting between the two teams. WNE leads the all-time series, 25-2, with their last loss to the Leopards dating back to 2014.

 

NEXT UP:

  • Wentworth travels across the city to play Suffolk in conference action Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
