Women's Basketball Battles Endicott Behind Foster's 18 Points

BOSTON, Mass. – A double-double from senior Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) led an impressive battle for the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team against the Endicott Gulls. Endicott held on for a 60-50 Commonwealth Coast Conference win Saturday afternoon despite a 13-10 stat line for Busbey.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth sprung out to a 4-0 lead on two baskets from Busbey and sophomore Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.). The Gulls tied the score at four-apiece with four points from senior Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.). The Leopards extended their lead to four again on two baskets from sophomores Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) and Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine), marking an 8-4 score. After three points for Endicott, Carlson made another layup to mark a 10-7 score. After the Gulls notched four-straight points, sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) nailed a three to put the hosts ahead 13-11. A Laugeni layup tied the score at 13-all at the end of the first quarter.
  • The two teams traded baskets to start the second quarter, the Gulls set out to a 23-15 lead thanks to two three-pointers from senior Cassie Caldwell (Marshfield, Mass.). Wentworth answered the run with a three from Foster to cut the deficit to 23-18. Endicott then went on a 9-2 run, with four points from sophomore Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.), to hold a 32-20 lead. A Carroll three cut the deficit to nine at 32-23. Two scores from Dempsey and Laugeni gave Endicott a 36-23 lead at the half.
  • Endicott scored five-straight points to start the third quarter, with a three coming from sophomore Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.), to take a 41-23 lead. Wentworth then scored the next seven, with four from Foster and three from Busbey, to cut the deficit to 41-30. The two teams traded baskets to work up to a 48-37 score in favor of the Gulls until a layup by Foster cut the deficit to nine at a 48-39 score by the conclusion of the third frame.
  • The Gulls held their nine-point lead to a 54-45 score towards the midway mark of the fourth quarter. Four-straight points for the visitors, with two coming from senior Emily St. Thomas (Sterling, Mass.), gave themselves a 58-45 lead before another Carroll three cut the deficit to ten at 58-48. The two teams traded scores to end the game, resulting in a 60-50 final.
  • Foster led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Laugeni's 17. Busbey finished the game with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

  • The Gulls lead the all-time series, 35-4.
