Gordon Outscores Women's Basketball in Low-Scoring Affair

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team dropped a defensive showing to the Fighting Scots of Gordon by a 55-37 score in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup in their last home game of the season Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Gordon opened the contest on a 12-2 run, with eight of the points coming from senior Madison Wynbeek (North Haledon, N.J.). After a basket by sophomore Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine), Gordon scored five more points before Foster cashed another layup and free throw of her own to mark a 19-7 score at the end of the first quarter.
  • After traded baskets to start the second quarter, senior Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) sank a three to bring the score to 21-12. Gordon scored two threes from sophomore Brynn Barnhard (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore Ami Rivera (Concord, N.H.) to bring the score to 27-12 before the two teams traded baskets to bring the score to 29-16 at the half.
  • Gordon outscored Wentworth 12-3 in the third quarter, led by six points each from Wynbeek and sophomore Isabella Rivera (Concord, N.H.) to bring the score to 41-19.
  • After two threes from the Fighting Scots sandwiched a Busbey layup, sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) sank a three to mark a 47-24 score. The two teams traded baskets to a 53-30 score until a three from sophomore Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) made the score 53-33. After a Gordon basket, Foster and Carlson notched four points for the Leopards to mark a 55-37 final tally.

 

SERIES NOTES:

  • Tonight marked the 47th meeting between the two teams. Gordon leads the all-time series, 33-14.
